Further your beer education with a fresh-off-the-tap jug of crafty goodness from some of Atlanta's most knowledgeable sages of the suds.
"Man, you guys are the only place where I can find _____!" (Insert obscure, cultishly adored beer here.) It's something I've heard uttered more than a few times inside the craft beer market on West College, where Eddie Holley and his crew have created a hop-scented haven for those seeking refuge from flavorless big-box brews. Here, it doesn't matter whether you're a connoisseur or you're just beginning to wean yourself off of Natty Ice—the folks at Ale Yeah! are tried-and-true pros at steering people toward their new favorite beer. And for many, your education begins at the taps.
Offering a dozen taps at their Decatur store and eighteen in Roswell, Ale Yeah! isn't trying to be the MegaMart of craft beer—they're just keeping the beer as fresh as possible by making sure a keg doesn't overstay its welcome (c'mon, no one wants a nice, cold glass of three-month-old beer). And Ale Yeah!'s growlers really are as fresh as it gets. The sixty-four ounce jugs aren't just a fetching way to tote your beer around. "It's simple," says Eddie. "You get the freshest possible beer outside of the brewery. It's draft beer that you can have on your couch." Carey, the manager of the Decatur store, puts it another way: "It's like having a bar in your home... without having to actually build a bar in your home." Fresh off the taps right in your living room; no visit to Home Depot required.
And for those looking to expand their Craft 101 palette or chase down their saison soulmate, Ale Yeah!'s growler's — and the beer-loving folks behind the counter — are the perfect way to learn. "We have plenty of people who come through our doors telling us that they like Guinness, or Blue Moon, or Stella," says Eddie. "Our job is to guide them toward the products that we think they'd be interested in. It's not about selling products, it's about educating customers." Thanks to a staff full of "beer people," you can easily walk in without an ounce of beer-smarts and waltz out happily toting a big, shiny growler full of, say, a Belgian Dubbel handpicked by some of our city's most knowledgeable beer sages. Peruse the ever-changing taps, take your pick, fill 'er up, snag some of their artisan cheese or sausage to go along with it, and head home for an immersion course in beer-savoring. You'll never look at High Life the same way again.
