Don't call it a gym: Midtown's sleek, serene Urban Body is the Benz of yoga and pilates studios. Start looking forward to your workout with UBS' yoga, pilates, TRX, and Feel The Burn classes, all in the knowledgable hands of world-class instructors.
Trudging into a grimy GloboGym, waiting in line for the treadmill, and attempting to find your drishti over the sounds of would-be Hulks grunting their way through leg-presses outside the door: not the most motivating environment for one's physical or mental health. But walking into a sparkling-clean, serene spa environment with a clean towel waiting on you and some of the best instructors in the city coaching your way through your yoga vinyasa/pilates leg circles/TRX curls? Ahhhh, yes... much better. For, ahem, some people (okay, fine, me), any excuse to not work out is a good one—unless you're feeling the burn in a place like Urban Body, because this studio makes it hard (impossible?) to not enjoy your workout. For years, UBS has remained one of Atlanta's favorite places to practice yoga, pilates, and other classes, all thanks to their beautiful, state-of-the-art facilities and world-class instructors. Think you can't squeeze in a pilates session before work? Fresh towels, free coffee (!) and wi-fi, clean showers, and hair-fixin'-accessories await you (not to mention the feeling of knocking out a workout before most people have had their coffee). Suppose you're not quite ready to try your hand at dancer's pose? With plenty of beginners' classes and instructors who've spent hundreds and hundreds of hours teaching, you're in good hands. Indeed, UBS has achieved the near-impossible: they've made a workout facility feel like a place where one can truly unwind and even (gasp!) look forward to feeling the burn.
And feel the burn you will. With yoga, pilates, TRX, and an actual class program entitled "Feel the Burn," spending a little time at UBS is a surefire way to start working toward those chiseled arms/athletic abs/yoga butt you've been envisioning. (And it's worth noting that the instructor who mans all those classes has a serious cult following around town.) For fans of Pilates, UBS is a classical Pilates facility — as in, the way Joseph Pilate actually taught his classes — and they're one of only a few in town. Aspiring yogis will zen out with UBS' blended vinyasa (flow) and iyengar (posture-based) yoga classes, with offerings from total newbies to athletes who need a little extra stretch. If the only burn you've felt all summer was the kind that requires aloe vera gel, Feel The Burn is the way to go: owner Rad described it to me as "bootcamp lite," without the in-your-face yelling but with all the benefits of, well, feeling the burn. And for those who are really ready to step up your fitness game, there's TRX, a suspension training program developed by the Navy SEALS that'll work wonders for your core. Hey, if it works for the special ops guys, we're pretty sure it'll work for our own urban bods. And it sure beats that hamster-on-a-treadmill routine at GloboGym.
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your first class for registration. Complimentary valet parking available Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.
