Despite the absence of blue laws, finding a bit of authentic Southern comfort around these parts can be maddening. Many Southern-themed locales present their version of regional food in the image of what Yankees think is authentic down yonder, rather than how true "Suthenahs" really get down come suppertime. All such stereotypes are thrown by the wayside at Georgia’s Eastside BBQ, a smoke joint that does ribs right. Especially on these Monday nights -- when the idea is to eat as much soul-warmin comfort food as physically possible. Dry rubbed with a house made spice blend, slow cooked for hours and brushed with a homemade barbecue sauce on the grill, these juicy slabs of meat are meant to be devoured, one after the other, without pause or pretension or fear of proper table etiquette.
With limited seating on Mondays at either 6 or 8 p.m., you’re invited to engage in an unlimited supply of juicy ribs accompanied by a limitless litany of rotating sides. We recommend the cornbread, a sweet bake stuffed with honey, roasted corn, and heaps of butter melted on top just before it hits your plate. Another belt buster is the 'Maque Choux', a sautéed corn, andouille, and jalapeno mix that marries well with the tomato-based barbecue sauce slathered upon your plate. Despite their proficiency for meat mongering, Georgia’s is also known for its menu of garden fresh veggies. Lightly sautéed with a crunch, you haven’t had okra until you’ve had it in Georgia’s. While you might need to remove a rib of your own to make room for dessert, but Georgia’s chocolate or banana pudding is worth the price of a temporary severance.Strike down all reservations about heaping portions and diet restrictions, at least on Monday night around here. After all, by Southern standards, leavin' the supper table before clearin' all y'alls plates... well, it just wouldn't be quite right.
