Even without its non-profit underpinnings, Housing Works Bookstore would still qualify as one of our all-time favorite spots in the city. "You can feel the books breathe," says cafe manager Amy, and we agree: the store's beautiful, careful selection of used books tells all kinds of stories, above and beyond the ones written on all of those pages. This isn't a place to snag your secret subway copy of Fifty Shades Darker, y'all; these shelves hold your next great reading adventure, and browsing for the unexpected is all part of the fun.
Now, add to that the fact that the proceeds from the bookstore benefit a mission we can all get behind, and you'll see why we love it here so much. Housing Works provides all manner of services for people living with HIV/AIDS, and we've partnered with them to help raise awareness of their work, and to spread the love we have of their glorious bookstore and newly revamped cafe. How do you fit in? All you gotta do is stop into the bookstore's cafe for a bite to eat and some book browsin'. With this deal, we're hooking you up with a brown bag lunch (a sandwich of your choice, plus chips and either a soda or a PBR, if you're dining in), and a $10 book credit you can use on anything in the store. Don't worry, every dime you spend goes right back into Housing Works coffers. Giving back has never been quite so rewarding, right?
