The City Council’s in shambles (again); we’re still not a state; and dagnabbit, the humidity is already getting to us. Yes, while we may have 99 problems, rest assured—a brunch ain’t one. Especially if said brunch is at Kushi, one of our favorite local restaurants. Brunch here is more than just a whole meal of food, it’s a righteous repost for two, complete with an appetizer to share (choose from oysters or edemame), two delicious entrees, ranging from steak and eggs to sushi, a dessert to split and, of course, a very necessary selection of intoxicating libations because, obviously, the first and maybe only rule about brunch is to never be thirsty. Particularly awesome about Kushi's brunch cocktails are that, like most everything else here, they come with a Japanese twist. Try the Wasabi Bloody Mary, the Yuzu Orange Mimosa or go with a traditional izakaya staple, the Chu-Hai, a badass shochu-based cocktail.
And because we’re doing it up right, the VIP (a.k.a. the Scoutmob) way, we’re not going to let your taste buds party without letting your ears get in on the action, as well. One of the coolest parts about Kushi’s brunch is also getting to hear some live local music. Fill your ear canals with reggae on June 17, Latin jazz on June 24 and jazz reggae on July 1. “We understand that there is a huge brunch-loving crowd in DC and we provide a go-to neighborhood place to enjoy great food and live music on a Sunday,” said Kushi’s Ari Kushimoto Norris. So who’s ready for a Sunday Funday?(We’ve been ready since Monday.)
