Calling all aspiring Indiana Joneses and Tomb Raiders: there is valuable ancient artifact that needs recovering before the government gets to it, and it’s your mission to find it first. Upgrade your classic fall corn maze with Escape Woods’ outdoor labyrinth and escape room-style game.
You and your team are part of an elite dig team called the Artifact Recovery Coalition or A.R.C. The team is in a furious search of a very valuable ancient artifact buried in the woods many years ago. However, the government has also been searching for the treasure and will stop at nothing to find it first. Your mission? Solve a series of puzzles to get through the labyrinth, find the hidden treasure and get out as quickly as possible before the FBI descends on the site to take the treasure for themselves.
Located on Sleepy Hollow Farms, a property in Powder Springs, Ga., that’s also home to Christmas trees, a pumpkin patch, corn maze and host of animals from free-range chickens to goats (if it sounds like a little autumn paradise, that may be because it is), Escape Woods is a twist on the traditional corn maze and escape room. The game is entirely outside, built in the forest with tall wood planks to create a maze full of multiple rooms connected by hallways, locked passageways, hidden doors and clues on how to get through it. And this is no amateur operation: one of the founders has a background in Hollywood props that manifests itself throughout, like in the cave room or abandoned campsite.
The game takes about an hour, and you’ll have the option to play during the day or at night (but we’d recommend night, just for the added spookiness and cool lighting effects). You’ll enter through the front of the property and meet by a barn (watch out for the wandering cats and chickens), and from there, someone will guide you back to the forest entrance where they’ll have a bonfire going and more instructions for your game. We'd recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes—you will be outside in the woods for the entirety of the experience. And if you enjoy The Dig, get ready for their new games coming up: one, an escape from a military bunker, and the other, an escape from a haunted cabin in the woods.
