Why not pass an afternoon sauntering around Georgia’s O.G. of craft breweries, sippin’ on some fresh-brewed liquid gold, and bringing home a keepsake (or three) with you? Taste your heart out, ATL.
It’s an Atlanta institution – the first of its kind – the O.G. so to speak. For years they’ve been producing refreshments that bring smiles to our faces and let us unwind. No, we're not talking about the birthplace of Waffle House or Coca Cola (though we love ‘em both). You might not know why Red Brick has an important place in ATL's yesteryear, so here's a history lesson: it's the oldest operating craft brewery in Georgia. Formerly known as the Atlanta Brewing Company, the Red Brick folk were the first to jump on the repeal of a Prohibition-era law that didn't permit beer-makin'. Lo, what would eventually become Red Brick was born. And you get to experience the brewery — and the beer — firsthand. That's a field trip we can get on board with.
Walking into Red Brick's front door, you might feel like you're more in a laid-back bar than an actual brewery. You know why? Because you are. It’s a convivial, low-key spot. Their front lounge is where your journey starts and ends. After hanging out with like-minded beer connoisseurs, you'll make your way toward the room where the magic happens. Your guide will explain the process of turning water, barley, yeast and hops into their award-winning suds, and by the end of it, you'll be seriously thirsting for a sip. And the folks of Red Brick? They’re happy to oblige ya.
Once you're done soaking up the heady scent of hops, you'll make it back to the lounge where you get to soak up the hops. And with more than 13 variations of brew coming out of their facilities yearly, there’s plenty to be sipped on. The fruits of Red Brick's labor will be up for grabs for your sampling pleasure. A couple sips of Hoplanta and you'll understand why Red Brick's walls sport all those accolades. We’re especially fond of their barrel-aged efforts. The 3 Bagger? It’s aged lovingly in rum casks – it’s so tasty you’ll wish that pint glass was bottomless. It may not be – but at least you can take it home with you to keep the beer loving alive! It’s true, you can sport your love for local landmark's brews with two signature pint glasses, two t-shirts and two koozies for optimal swilling. They make the beer, you drink it... and everybody wins.
